I received a completely unexpected blessing recently. I was invited to be part of a dynamic group of instructors for a series of programs called “Embodied Equine Experience.” These programs are scheduled for Wednesday afternoons, 3-5 p.m. during April and May in a beautiful setting called Heron Hills Farm and are centered around a herd of three beautiful horses.
The owner of the farm, Teren MacLeod, has raised or rescued these horses and they are now retired from active riding. Her wish was that their powerful, tender spirits could still be of use to bring comfort, healing and inspiration. So she came up with the idea of a series of artistic events involving writing, art, music and oracle cards!
I met the horses about two weeks ago and immediately fell in love. It had been years since I directly interacted with horses although I have always admired and been drawn to them. As a girl, I took riding lessons and I read every horse book our library had on its shelves. Marguerite Henry’s Album of Horses was my favorite book I owned, along with a beautifully illustrated edition of Black Beauty my great aunt gave me for Christmas. I collected statues of horses.
Visiting Heron Hills and meeting the horses there, brought back so many poignant memories. Teren carefully showed me how to approach Clark, Tacksi and Jiggilili. I had almost forgotten the spell horses cast. I got right to work designing my 2 classes.
Recently, in my psychic, spiritual practice I have been working on connecting people with their Spirit Guides. I found that many of the Guardian Spirits who show up are animals – those we have loved in life and who have passed on and even wild or archetypal animals with characteristics we are attracted to.
During the classes, students will get to interact with the Heron Hills horses as they feel called. I have prepared a series of exercises to inspire writing about these and other horses, and also to recall our own dearest animals and their protective, healing spirits.
I have had a stressful, poetically uninspired winter that I felt would never end. But the minute I began to see, feel, touch, smell, listen to the horses, my Muse woke up! I have already written three poems I am proud of and have drafts of others. I can’t wait to help provide this experience for others!!!
My classes are April 16 & 30th and you can register by going to www.heronhillequine.org, clicking on Events. You can use the link or QR code. Cost is $25.00 per session.
I am also very excited about the other classes and plan on attending several. I know that each person who is called to attend will bring just the energy the group needs. I am eager to meet your Animal Inspirations!
